159B Ho-De-No-Sau-Nee Name Details

The name Ho-De-No-Sau-Nee came from Lewis Henry Morgan's work (1851) in which he referred to the Iroquois as Ho-dé-no-sau-nee. The Six Nations refer to themselves as the Haudenosaunee. Some scholars of Native American history consider "Iroquois" a derogatory name adopted from the traditional enemies of the Haudenosaunee.
