Council History

From the merger of Sonoma-Mendocino Area Council and Redwood Area Council, initially covering Sonoma, Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte Counties. At the end of 2011, Humboldt and Del Norte Counties were transferred to Crater Lake Council. Upon Crater Lake's merger with Oregon Trail in 2024, the California counties were transferred to California-based Councils (Humboldt & Del Norte to Golden Gate Area and Siskiyou & Modoc to Golden Empire). In 2025 Redwood Empire Council merged into Golden Gate Area Council.
