The original Greater Boston Council (1911-1918) became Municipal Boston Council 227 (1918-1921) and eventually Boston Council 227 in 1921. Between 1921 and 1980, it absorbed Needham 244 and Inter-City 727 Councils in 1928, Somerville Council 770 in 1930, and Quincy Council 248 in 1966. From 1976-1979 it joined Cambridge, North Bay, and Minuteman Councils to create the Mass Bay Federated Councils, but the organization was disbanded back into the original councils. In 1980, Boston Council 227 changed its name to Greater Boston Council 227.
