75th ANN; 1938 - 2013; Lodge Building Commemorative flap
Wahissa’s founders were George Kellock (Kel) Hale, Jr., Scoutmaster of Troop 38 in Mount Airy; and William E. (Skipper or Ned) Vaughn-Lloyd, Sr., Scout Executive of the Old Hickory Council, of Winston-Salem. The Wahissa Lodge Building (also known at the G. Kellock Hale, Jr., Training Center) at Camp Raven Knob is depicted on this flap. The building was dedicated to Kel Hale by E. Urner Goodman, co-founder of the Order of the Arrow, in a ceremony at the front of the building in July 1974. Note the image of ironwork in the foreground of the patch; the actual ironwork at the lodge building was created by Larry Day. The brick courtyard beyond the iron railing holds bricks purchased in memory or in honor of many Scouts and Scouters. The granite retaining wall was constructed in honor of Mr. Ken Spicer of Elkin.
