X1 is best categorized as an R3 that does not contain any black threads from the name to the white border. It was originally thought that the X1 was oval as compared to an R3, however, this has since been disproved by comparison of several examples of R3s and X1s. The R3 in general is more oval than round. The X1 variation probably should reside as an "MVE" of the R3, but it has been maintained as an X1 for posterity.
