Evan Davis From the Lodge 70 history: July 27 through August 1, 2002. The lodge sent 75 delegates and six staff members to the National OA Conference at Indiana University. The group encountered a delay when I-40 was closed in the mountains due to an 18-wheeler accident. When they finally got through, they headed to their accommodations in Seymour, Indiana. When the lodge arrived in Bloomington, they were greeted by staff members Ted Williams and Section Chief Michael Long. The lodge settled in and prepared for a great week. All delegates are expected to attend training, but some groups are more diligent than others. The lodge wanted 100% and came close with 94.6%. The lodge set several goals for NOAC, and here are some results: Lodge Newsletter - 2nd Place nationally, 3rd Place Soccer Team, Award of Merit Lodge History, 1st Place Where To Go Camping Booklet, 1st Place Camp Promotions Booth, 1st Place Dutch Oven – Youth and Adult, and 1st Place Ice Cream Making. The lodge also competed in the NOAC Pinewood Derby. Dale Allred won a 1st in consolation, Steve Allred – 5th Place, and Jeremiah Lynch – 9th Place. The most significant honor the lodge received was the “Spirit Award.” Only 20 lodges in the country received this recognition. On Founder’s Day, the lodge had a popular booth that served Cheerwine and hush puppies. over 1 year ago
