Section History

The Order of the Arrow designated the lodges in North Carolina as Area I in 1938. Tali Taktaki Lodge 70 was very active and was scheduled to host the 1942 National Meeting of the OA at UNC-Chapel Hill. When the conference was canceled due to the start of World War II the lodge invited North Carolina OA members to Camp Graystone for an Area Fellowship. No patch was issued for this event attended by 70 NC Arrowmen. Following the war Fellowship Meetings were held in 1945, 1946, and 1947. An event was scheduled for October 1948, but was canceled due to a polio epidemic in NC that year. The lodges in this section included: Tali Taktaki Lodge 70, Occoneechee Lodge 104, Croatan Lodge 117, Wahissa Lodge 118, Tslagi Lodge 163, Itibapishe Iti Hollo Lodge 188, Uwharrie Lodge 208, Nayawin Rar Lodge 296, and Klahican Lodge 331 (chartered in 1946).
