History

Area NE-6 was named the Mid-Atlantic Area between 1982 and 1988. This initial war shield patch was created in 1989 with that name. The logo with the single large star was based on the fact that when these councils were moved from the Southeast Region to the Northeast Region in 1982 they became the new Area NE-6 and a sixth central star was added to the then-current Northeast Region logo. So NE-6 represented the star in the center of the classic NE Region logo. (When the 1988 reorganization produced a seventh area, an additional surrounding star was added, so NE-6 remained the star in the center.)
